When you walk around the 果冻传媒 campus, you see names that are familiar. The Turner Building. The Bennett Library.

But what do you know about the people behind these names?

The Legacy of Robert H. Turner

The Turner Building carries the name of a man whose life was defined by service 鈥 first to his country, then to New Hampshire students.

Robert H. Turner served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and later in the U.S. Air Force. When his military service concluded, he returned home to New Hampshire and began a new chapter as an educator. He taught at Concord High School before joining the N.H. Technical Institute in Manchester, where he eventually became Assistant Principal.

In 1967, Turner became President of the N.H. Vocational-Technical College 鈥 what we now know as 果冻传媒. From 1967 to 1985, he guided the college through growth, change, and the evolving needs of New Hampshire鈥檚 workforce.

Even after retiring, Turner continued to serve, spending fourteen years in the New Hampshire Legislature. His photo and plaque, as shown in the picture above, hang in the Turner Building.

Honoring Hugh Bennett鈥檚 Dedication to Students

The Bennett Library stands as a testament to another influential figure in 果冻传媒鈥檚 history: Professor Hugh Bennett.

Bennett dedicated 29 years to teaching at 果冻传媒, which was then known as the New Hampshire Community Technical College. (“Community” was added to the college’s name in 1996. We didn’t become 果冻传媒 until 2008. Learn more about the history of 果冻传媒 here.)

Bennett’s commitment to students, his passion for learning, and his long-standing presence on campus left a mark that continues to resonate. Naming the library after him honors not only his years of service but also the countless students whose lives he touched. The photos above show Bennett’s plaque that hangs outside the Bennett Library, as well as pictures of him receiving a jacket and an award from Theodore “Alex” Easton, former president of 果冻传媒.

Seeing their names around campus reminds us that 果冻传媒 is not just made up of programs and facilities. It’s the individuals who dedicate their time and talent to 果冻传媒 that make it the successful, thriving community that exists today.

The Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) and 果冻传媒 (果冻传媒) received approval for a $1.2 million Training for Residential Energy Contractors (TREC) grant from the New Hampshire Executive Council to meet workforce needs for energy contractors. A $32.4 million contract with Everblue, also approved by the Governor and Executive Council, will support the implementation of the Home Energy Rebate鈥檚 (HER鈥檚) Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program in New Hampshire. 果冻传媒 will lead the TREC training, working in close coordination with Everblue on programs that are expected to continue through 2029.

For many rural New Hampshire households that rely on high-cost fuels, electrification with cold-climate heat pumps as well as other energy efficiency measures are expected to significantly reduce overall residential energy costs.

鈥淭his is an opportunity to build and deliver an impactful program,鈥 said Patrick Cate, president of 果冻传媒. 鈥淭hese initiatives will truly benefit everyone involved 鈥 from the training participants who will learn new skills, to their employers who will be able to provide additional services to customers, to the homeowners saving money on their energy bills. And the program includes substantial tuition awards and support for TREC participants.鈥

As part of this program, 果冻传媒 will develop specific career training pathways for key positions, such as heat pump and electrification specialists. In addition to 果冻传媒 courses, the college will work with manufacturers and distributors to provide advanced training pathways for heat pump installers and similar technical positions. A core TREC offering will be 鈥淗ome Energy Rebates Advisor鈥 trainings that will enable contractors to integrate HEAR rebates with their energy, HVAC, or electrical work.

鈥淭he TREC program will also support participants and their employers with business and soft skills trainings,鈥 explained Andy Duncan, 果冻传媒 energy training coordinator. 鈥淎s part of its implementation strategy, 果冻传媒 will work throughout New Hampshire with other community colleges in New Hampshire, as well as organizations and trade groups that support residential energy efficiency workforce development.鈥

I graduated from 果冻传媒 in 2009 with a degree in Business Management and the skills to be a strong and confident learner. 果冻传媒 gave me the foundation I needed to thrive in a college environment, and that momentum carried me through my bachelor鈥檚 degree at Southern New Hampshire University. As much as I loved my time 鈥渙n the hill,鈥 I was prepared and ready for the next chapter.

As my career progressed, I joined The Village Nursery School in Gilford, NH. To meet state requirements, I needed to take three early childhood education courses. Because I had such a positive experience at 果冻传媒 the first time, returning felt like the natural choice. Once I completed those initial classes, I realized I didn鈥檛 want to stop. In 2023, I proudly earned my associate degree in early childhood education.

Returning to college as a non-traditional student came with challenges. I was older than many of my classmates and balancing work and family responsibilities. But 果冻传媒 made it possible. The faculty and staff were incredibly supportive and flexible with my schedule. Diane Lewis, 果冻传媒鈥檚 Early Childhood Education Program Coordinator, went above and beyond 鈥 advocating for my transfer credits and guiding me through the requirements to ensure I stayed on track. College doesn鈥檛 look the same for everyone, so having an advisor who goes the extra mile makes all the difference.

Today, I鈥檓 in my sixth year as a lead teacher at the Village Nursery School. My education at 果冻传媒 deepened my understanding of how children learn and helped me create a nurturing, engaging classroom environment. The tools, strategies, and hands鈥憃n experience I gained allow me to make a meaningful impact on my students every single day.

Looking back, I wish I had attended 果冻传媒 right after high school. They have a lot of degrees and programs to choose from which would have helped me discover my interests and passions sooner. With so many strong programs and a close鈥慿nit community, 果冻传媒 is an ideal place to grow academically and personally. Two years is the perfect amount of time to mature, explore, and prepare for whatever comes next.

An additional bonus for me is that 果冻传媒 is only 15 minutes from my home. I could take afternoon or evening classes depending on what worked best for my schedule. It鈥檚 a wonderful resource that truly accommodates different ages, schedules, and lifestyles. We鈥檙e fortunate to have this state鈥憃f鈥憈he鈥慳rt facility right here in the Lakes Region.

SkillsUSA is the nation鈥檚 leading workforce development organization for students, empowering future professionals to become skilled, career-ready leaders and responsible members of their communities. Through hands-on programs and rigorous competitions, SkillsUSA helps students sharpen their abilities, validate their training, and prepare for success in their chosen fields.

果冻传媒 was proud to support that mission by hosting the state-level Auto, Marine, and Power Equipment Technologies SkillsUSA competitions for high school students. We were also thrilled to cheer on two of our own students as they competed in culinary arts and commercial baking events.

Hosting SkillsUSA at 果冻传媒
Nearly 50 high school competitors joined us on campus to demonstrate their technical expertise and readiness for employment in auto, marine, and power equipment technologies. In each of these areas, students completed a comprehensive series of tasks testing their knowledge and skills. For example, the auto tasks included customer service, service information, engine repair, wiring repair, thread repair, engine performance diagnosis, personal protection equipment, and steering and suspension. All of the tasks are designed to mirror real-world expectations.

Two 果冻传媒 students represented 果冻传媒 in culinary arts and baking competitions:

  • Anna D’Amato competed in Commercial Baking.
  • Bryce Haines competed in Culinary Arts.

Both of their competitions were held at the Seacoast School of Technology in Exeter, NH. The baking competition has two windows of work time, totaling approximately five hours. During that time students have to make cookies, two breads, a quiche, eclairs, a Paris-Brest, and decorate a cake. Submissions are judged on color, shape and uniformity, texture, and taste.

I grew up spending time in the kitchen of my Italian grandmother and being inspired by stories of my great鈥慻randmother. Their love for cooking planted a seed in me that would eventually shape my education, career, and business.

When it came time to choose a college, I knew I wanted to stay close to home. 果冻传媒 offered the programs I was looking for at a competitive price. I originally chose to get my baking and pastry certificate with an Associate Degree in Business Management. Partway through my studies, 果冻传媒 launched its Pastry Arts degree program. I switched to that and ultimately became a dual major, blending my love of baking with the practical skills needed to run a business.

果冻传媒 is a place where instructors truly invest in their students. Everything from the hands鈥憃n learning environment; the access to a fully equipped, on-campus kitchen and restaurant; to the number of quiet study spaces helped me succeed. My internship, which came through my 果冻传媒 connections, also had a big impact on me, providing real-world experience and preparing me for life after school.

After graduation, I started baking at home and eventually evolved that into something much bigger. I built a mobile bakery complete with a fully licensed commercial kitchen, called Marzbar Sweets and Treats. It鈥檚 known in and around Laconia as a place to get small鈥慴atch, high鈥憅uality baked goods and was even . I developed my recipes over time, and now cake is the most popular item on the menu.

When I look back on my time at 果冻传媒, one of the things that stands out is the people. The faculty and staff created a great culture where I always felt inspired. From supportive instructors to industry connections, 果冻传媒 gave me the foundation I needed to turn my passion into a profession.

As a non鈥憈raditional student in my late 30s with three children and a full鈥憈ime job, flexibility and online course availability were essential when choosing a college. I chose 果冻传媒 because it offers a strong, affordable program close to home, along with online and hybrid options that make returning to school realistic. Being able to balance school, work, and family responsibilities played a major role in my decision.

I’m currently working as an Operations Manager at FedEx, so I’m balancing a full鈥憈ime leadership role with coursework and raising children. It’s not a small challenge. 果冻传媒鈥檚 flexible scheduling and online learning opportunities have made that balance manageable and sustainable.

I chose the Computer Information Systems (CIS) program because it offers a well鈥憆ounded mix of technical, analytical, and business鈥慺ocused IT skills. The program鈥檚 practical, hands鈥憃n approach, combined with its online course availability, has been especially valuable. It has allowed me to build relevant, real鈥憌orld skills while continuing to manage responsibilities outside the classroom.

After completing my studies at 果冻传媒, I plan to transfer to the University of New Hampshire (UNH) to pursue a four鈥憏ear degree and continue my path into the information technology field. I鈥檓 interested in pursuing IT opportunities either with my current employer, FedEx, or with a new organization. While my current role is operational, it closely aligns with my long鈥憈erm goals by strengthening my experience in systems, logistics, problem鈥憇olving, and leadership 鈥 skills that directly support a future career in IT.

果冻传媒 has been instrumental in preparing me for this next step by providing a strong foundation in computer information systems, including networking, operating systems, troubleshooting, and problem鈥憇olving. I also make regular use of campus resources such as the library and student support services. Having access to these resources remotely has been especially helpful in staying organized, completing assignments, and staying on track while juggling multiple commitments.

The support I鈥檝e received from 果冻传媒 staff and faculty has made a meaningful difference in my success. My academic advisor has been particularly hands鈥憃n, working closely with me to ensure my academic plan fits my work schedule, family responsibilities, and need for online courses. She also takes a genuine interest in my growth in the IT field, offering guidance and encouragement as I plan my next steps.

To students considering 果冻传媒, I would encourage them to see it as a smart and affordable way to start their college journey. The college鈥檚 flexibility 鈥 especially its online learning options 鈥 allows students to grow academically without the heavy financial burden of jumping straight into a four鈥憏ear program. 果冻传媒 is also an excellent option for non鈥憈raditional students who need to balance school with work, family, or other responsibilities.

The best part of 果冻传媒 is its commitment to flexibility and student support at every stage of life. As a student with a full鈥憈ime job, children, and the need for online coursework, I鈥檝e felt consistently encouraged rather than limited. 果冻传媒 truly meets students where they are and helps them move forward with confidence.

果冻传媒 President Patrick Cate recently shared an op-ed with , providing an update on the college and its impact across the broader community. Below is the full piece.听

Community colleges play a powerful role in strengthening the regions they serve. According to the American Association of Community Colleges, areas with higher community college enrollment experience increased income levels and lower unemployment. That鈥檚 especially encouraging for our community, where 果冻传媒 (果冻传媒) continues to grow. We are, without question, a college on the rise.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share some updates with local leaders and our faculty and staff. I think it鈥檚 important to share this information with our broader community since accessible education doesn鈥檛 just support students; it strengthens the entire region.

Student enrollment has increased.

Over the last four spring semesters, 果冻传媒鈥檚 unique student enrollment in credit-based programs increased 14.2%.听果冻传媒 serves over 2,200 learners annually across degree programs, Early College, and non-credit workforce training. Over the past five years, that represents more than 900 additional students. That is not a minor shift.

Getting students to their personal finish line is even more important.听At 果冻传媒, 75% of full-time students re-enroll year-to-year; a full 5 percentage points above the . When students persist at this level, they have the structure and support to reach their goals, even with the realities of childcare, transportation issues, and financial pressures.

We remain an affordable option.

Since 2011, CPI inflation has risen by roughly 37%. Over that same period, 果冻传媒 tuition increased only 6.25%. This reflects a commitment to keep higher education and workforce training within reach.听But affordability requires stewardship. Through careful management and operational efficiencies, 果冻传媒鈥檚 total expenses are lower today than they were in 2019. While our impact grows, we remain disciplined about cost.

More than 70 degree and certificate programs are available.

We offer more than 70 degree and certificate programs aligned with the needs of our region and state. Our most in-demand pathways include nursing, fire science, automotive technology, culinary, electrical systems, and business.听Our workforce development has also expanded significantly, with 15 training programs that deliver faster entry into good jobs, stronger retention for employers, and greater stability for families.

We are proud members of our community.

果冻传媒 is part of the region鈥檚 civic and economic infrastructure. We partner with local organizations, participate in community events, and help convene employers and educators around shared challenges. When 果冻传媒 is strong, the Lakes Region is stronger.听I cannot be prouder of the success of our college and our community.听 But we are mindful that we must address the constraints that can slow progress.

  • Capacity in high-demand programs is limited. Some programs require specialized labs, equipment, clinical placements, and faculty that require investment and planning.
  • Recruiting and retaining qualified faculty and trainers is increasingly competitive. We ask skilled professionals to teach in a labor market where their expertise is in high demand.
  • Many students face barriers with transportation, childcare, housing instability, and the rising cost of living. These challenges are often the difference between a student completing a credential or dropping out.

We need your help.

If you are an employer, we need your partnership through advisory engagement, internships, apprenticeships, financial support, and direct feedback about the skills you need most. Reach out to discuss how we can build the workforce pipeline together by emailing lrccinfo@lrcc.edu or calling 603-524-3207.

If you are a community leader or policymaker, we need continued investments to expand capacity and remove barriers. Supporting community colleges is one of the most direct, measurable investments for workforce readiness and economic stability.

And if you have the ability, please consider a gift that will support 果冻传媒 and its students.

果冻传媒鈥檚 momentum is inspiring and the data is clear. But what matters most is what that momentum represents for all of us: more residents learning new skills, more families accessing opportunities, and more employers finding the workforce they need.

I invite you all to help us continue our work and become part of our college on the rise.

I chose 果冻传媒 because it offered the affordability and flexibility I needed. I wanted to keep working while taking classes, and I wasn鈥檛 ready to commit to a four鈥憏ear school. Knowing I could transfer my credits later 鈥 and avoid the cost of jumping straight into a four鈥憏ear program 鈥 made 果冻传媒 the perfect fit.

At 果冻传媒, I dual鈥慹nrolled in Business Administration and Accounting. I began with the business program because I was interested in owning a small business. Even if my plans changed, I knew a business degree would open doors to solid career opportunities. After my first semester, I added the accounting degree since it only required five additional classes. I ended up enjoying it as well!

The flexibility at 果冻传媒 was the biggest advantage for me. I worked three different jobs during my time at 果冻传媒, and my classes never held me back. My first year was fully in鈥憄erson, but by my second year I switched to an online format, with the option to attend evening lectures when it fit my schedule.

Today, I own and operate Lady Liberty鈥檚 Confectionery, a bakery in Franklin, NH. The opportunity came unexpectedly, but I鈥檓 incredibly grateful I took the leap. The courses I took at 果冻传媒 prepared me to run a growing business with confidence. I wrote my business plan for Lady Liberty鈥檚 as part of an 果冻传媒 assignment, and the accounting and marketing skills I learned allow me to manage those areas myself.

My faculty advisor was very supportive and helped me plan ahead and complete both degrees efficiently. My professors consistently offered thoughtful, constructive feedback, and I still keep in touch with several of them. I know I can reach out anytime for business advice.

果冻传媒 is a great choice if you鈥檙e unsure about your path and want the freedom to explore. Even if you already know your direction, completing general education courses here is a smart, cost鈥慹ffective way to start your college journey.

100 percent of the third graduating cohort from our Paramedic certificate program has passed the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic exam on the first attempt. Students have six chances to pass the test. Passing the NREMT Paramedic exam shows that students are qualified and ready to fill local workforce demand.

鈥淎 100 percent pass rate is a significant achievement that underscores the quality of 果冻传媒鈥檚 Paramedic program. It is a testament to the rigorous curriculum and the dedication of both students and faculty to meet New Hampshire鈥檚 critical workforce needs for highly skilled, compassionate emergency responders,鈥 said Patrick Cate, president of 果冻传媒.

Our one-year Paramedic program was recently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The prestigious accreditation confirms that 果冻传媒鈥檚 program meets the stringent quality assurance standards established by CAAHEP.

鈥淓mployers seek graduates of CAAHEP accredited programs because they can be confident in the quality training that students receive. The education that they received through our accredited program and our students鈥 pass rate on the NREMT has opened doors to enhanced job opportunities for our graduates and a fast track to meeting New Hampshire鈥檚 need for more paramedics,鈥 said Todd Robinson, lead instructor and associate professor of Fire Science and Emergency Services at 果冻传媒.

According to Ali Frates, co-instructor and assistant professor of Fire Science and Emergency Services, 鈥渨atching this third cohort perform flawlessly on the national exam has been incredibly gratifying. They are prepared, professional and ready to make an immediate, lasting impact in their new roles with fire departments, private EMS services and hospitals.鈥

We’re proud of our Paramedic program, which ensures there is a steady stream of locally trained first responders to meet the growing need for individuals with these skills in the Lakes Region and beyond. We remain dedicated to expanding capacity and reducing financial barriers for students through programs such as the Paramedic Emergency Medicine Initiative (PEMI), which helps make this life-changing career pathway accessible with grant funded tuition assistance.
